The Toolangi philosophy is to source the very best grapes from the Yarra Valley and put them in the hands of the very best winemaker for that
particular grape variety. Rick Kinzbrunner (Giaconda) - Reserve Chardonnay; Matt Harrop (Shadowfax) - Reserve Pinot Noir, Reserve Shiraz &
“other parcels of Pinot & Shiraz”; Yering Station - Estate Chardonnay, Pinot Noir & Shiraz and all entry level wines. Yields are restricted ranging from
1 to 3 tonnes an acre in order to maximize quality. Toolangi produces wines with distinctive personalities, each wine showing a sense of place. This
has been the result of using highest quality grapes from exceptional sites, and the experienced hand of the individual winemakers subtly coming into
play with each wine. www.toolangi.com

***** James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2009 – Best winery in region |
2006 Estate Chardonnay
• 96 points “Crisp and tight, the aromas and flavours built around a minerally rather than oaky structure; terrific drive to the
nectarine fruit and a very long finish.” James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2009
• ***** ”After only a few short years in production, Toolangi’s Yarra Valley chardonnays are now benchmarks for the
region. Would that all Yarra chardonnays was so good. This latest vintage has a complex aroma reminiscent of white stone
fruits, green melon, barley sugar and nutty oak, with a pastry-like leesy touch. It tastes lighter than expected but is still
appetising and full of interest, with very fine, fresh flavours and satiny texture. It’s subtle, dry and elegant with a lovely,
lingering aftertaste.” Ralph Kyte-Powell – Wine of the Week – Epicure – The Age – 23rd Sept 2008
2005 Estate Pinot Noir
• “.. A complex, perfumed nose with notes of roses, leather and dark cherries leads onto a well structured, interesting palate
with good weight, texture& length.” Sally Gudgeon – 40 Winter Wines – 4 leading wine writers nominate 10 top drops – Qantas Magazine July 08
• “The Yarra Valley based Toolangi by Julie & Garry Hounsell who send their fruit to the winemaker they feel is best equipped to
handle a particular varietal. This superb pinot, crafted by Yering Station, is simply devine, brimming with sweet black cherry
fruit on the nose & palate. Integrated savoury characters, clever oaking & fine silky tannins.” Kerry Skinner– Illawarra Mercury Aug 08
2005 Estate Shiraz
• “Vibrant colour, peppery herbal edge with violets and lifted aromatics.” Jeni Port–The Epicure – The Age 14th Aug 2007
2005 Reserve Shiraz-
• “Incy-wincy yields bring lots of concentration to this wine. It has a gorgeous perfume, is plump and silky textured with feather-light tannins..” Jeni Port–
The Epicure – The Age 14th Aug 2007
• ***** – Toolangi may well be the benchmark Yarra Valley label. Wine quality is excellent, the product of outstanding grapes and inspired
winemaking. Reserve Shiraz 05 is complext with smoky, gamey, cherry and plum like fruit, with a whisper of mint. The silky palate is beautifully
sustained, with superb balancing fine tannins. Ralph Kyte-Powell – Epicure Wine Style – The Age – 30/11/0
• 93 points “An elegant, medium-bodied wine, winning by subtle persuasion rather than brute force; silky tannins and fine
cherry/plum fruit..” James Halliday Australian Wine Companion 2009
